Political Activists During the Holocaust
A political activist is anyone who does not agree with the current government and tries to speak out against it. During the Holocaust and WWII, these people wanted nothing more than equality for all and for the Nazi Party to be brought down, which made them a target for persecution. These people were simply strong believers in what they thought was right and unfortunately, this was seen as rebellion against the totalitarian government during WWII. Political activists were targeted during the holocaust because of their outspoken behavior against Hitler, the Nazi party and their allies. They saw these people as political opponents and sent them to concentration camps. However, the Nazis did not want to punish or kill those who were still Aryan. Instead, they valued their ethnicity for their potential plan of preserving the "perfect" race. If these people did not comply and continued to hold their beliefs, however, they were sent away or killed. During this time, over 1,200,000 political activists were killed from execution, starvation, or disease.
